Synonyms: DR, Business Continuity
Disaster Recovery is the term given to a plan of things to do in the worst possible scenario. When the sh*t really hits the fan. A server has died, the datacenter has blown up or an asteroid has crashed into the planet.
Business Continuity is very similar – how can operations continue in adverse circumstances. We are living through a literal Business Continuity event at the time of writing, with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) causing many businesses and industries to seek alternative arrangements.
You’ll want things like lists of people to call (possibly Superman, in the asteroid scenario), alternative work environments, warehouses of pre-configured replacement servers ‘just-in-case’ – all depending on the scale of the operation.
